Public Shave Events are being held across Australia, from Brisbane Queensland - I went out and took pictures of the Queensland Fire & Rescue Firefighters at Newfarm Park Brisbane!
Today I saw a firefighter get his head shaved, although not completely, and coloured, while his wife stood and watched. No big deal really,it's happening everywhere this weekend - BUT THIS IS A BIG DEAL - Senior Firefighter Lindsay... of Kemp Place is apart of the Shave to Care & Cure for a personal reason, his wife Heather is in remission from Cancer!
I would personally like to extend my best wishes to them for the future, and thank for them allowing me to take pictures! Thanks to Senior Firefighter Mark... from Kemp Place for letting me take the pictures of his bald head!
I'd also like to add that later in the day I will be out taking more pictures and adding to the site of another person I'm proud of for her efforts over this weekend, and helping the Shave to Care & Cure - my daughter Cass who is a 1st year Hairdressing Apprentice at Manly. Shes been out there shaving the heads of those who donate them to the cause!
Well done to all who attend the Shave to Care & Cure Leukaemia Foundation event.
Some history of this event:-
The World's Greatest Shave to Care and Cure is one of Australia 's biggest fundraising events.
In the last six years, World's Greatest Shave to Care and Cure has raised in excess of $38 million. The Leukaemia Foundation holds the Guinness World Record for the Most heads shaved over a 24 hour period, set between 12 pm on April 16, 1999 and 12 pm on April 17 1999.
Between 10-12 March 2005 we will be aiming to break our own record.
60,000 people across the country will pledge to shave or colour their hair t o raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Money raised will care for patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.
The Foundation sets an international benchmark in the care and support of patients and their families. We also fund cutting edge research into better treatments and cures through our National Research Program helping to improve survival rates for adults and children.
Anyone can participate in the World's Greatest Shave to Care and Cure, including individuals, teams, schools, community groups, clubs and businesses.
The Leukaemia Foundation currently holds the world record for Most heads shaved in 24 hours.
As part of this year's World's Greatest Shave to Care and Cure we want your help to keep the world record in Australia!
