Today marked a day of celebration for Recruits of course RC63 in brilliant Brisbane weather at Whtye Island Training Facility.
It saw not only the end of 16 weeks of strenuous and demanding training, in which they learnt many skills enabling them to join the emergency response team that is the QUEENSLAND FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE, it also signified the beginning of their careers with the QFRS.
The ceremonies for the day included Commissioner Queensland Fire & Rescue Lee Johnson doing a dress inspection, handing out presentation certificates to the recruits and recruit course instructors as well as handing out the hardest award to select - The Commissioners Award.
Other ceremonies of the day included the Recruit Firefighters showing family, friends and invited guests demonstrations of all they have learnt - from entering a smokey container, retrieving 2 casualities (dummies), to R.A.R (Road Accident Rescue) successfully working along side Queensland Ambulance and removing 2 more casualities (real ones!)
Presentation of Awards were:-
DAN CAMPBELL SHIELD FOR MOST IMPROVED RECRUIT FIREFIGHTER - presented by Mr John Hawxwell President of the Retired Firefighters Association to CLAYTON LAFFERTY.
CALTEX AWARD FOR MOST OUTSTANDING PRACTICAL RECRUIT FIREFIGHTER presented by Mr Paul Vardanega Caltex Aust to MONTY DAYMAN
and THE COMMISSIONES AWARD - DUX OF RECRUIT COURSE presented by Commissioner Lee Johnson to STUART CROUCHER.
Congratulations to all 25 Recruits (some who will be starting shift 8am Thursday morning) and who will be posted to Brisbane, Mt Isa, Ipswich, Mackay, Gold Coast, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Atherton and Toowoomba |
